Iconic vintage Eterna KonTiki mechanical watch from 1958–1965, rare in this 37mm version, with a dial featuring applied hour markers and an Eterna 1412U movement without a date function—and much more elegant on the wrist than the version with a date (1422U movement)—complete with its original signed steel bracelet and folding clasp. In rare condition. The legend: The KonTiki was launched in 1958 by Eterna in honor of the feat accomplished in 1948 by Thor Heyerdahl and his team, who set out on a balsa wood raft from the Peruvian coast to Polynesia to demonstrate the possible cultural connection between Polynesia and the inhabitants of South America. The men on the expedition all wore Eterna watches, which withstood the expedition’s more than 100 days at sea, highlighting the watch’s exceptional water resistance and durability. The KonTiki has since been featured on all sports models, with an engraving on the steel back of the sailboat for the first series, and in subsequent versions, an engraving on a gold-plated medallion. This model without a date display is one of the first Kontiki watches released, featuring a steel caseback with an engraved gold-plated medallion and the 1412 u movement. The automatic watch runs very well with a verified power reserve of +/- 45 hours Excellent condition for this rare vintage piece in this first-series configuration: 37mm / silver/beige dial, no date: * Case: 35mm x 43mm steel case with a screw-down steel back. The case middle is in very good condition with barely noticeable signs of wear; the back shows very light wear and scratches (a few fine scratches from normal use). The gold-plated raised engraving is in very good condition, featuring the serial number 4766248 on the sloped surface. * Knurled crown with its original crown head and famous logo (5 dots/balls representing the ball bearings they invented in watchmaking) in excellent condition. * Movement: numbered Eterna 1412U movement in very good condition. The balance wheel oscillates at a frequency of 18,000 vph * Silver/white patinated dial, with applied hour markers and logo, and "Eterna-Matic" and "KonTiki" markings: immaculate condition and very luminous (very fine, almost imperceptible discoloration of the varnish) * Highly transparent Hesalite crystal, virtually flawless, with a small, minor scratch barely visible at 11 o'clock * 3 steel/chrome hands with lume, in excellent condition * Superb flexible steel rice-grain link bracelet with a folding clasp, original and signed with the brand name and logo, in very good condition.
